Oman Air to Resume its Services to Maldives

Oman Air flights will recommence for the winter season from October 28th and will be operated by the new Boeing 737 aircraft.

Oman Air flights from Muscat to Maldives will operate on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the flight from Maldives to Muscat will operate on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Abdulaziz Al Raisi, chief executive of Oman Air, said: “We are delighted to be resuming our Maldives route and look forward to welcoming our valued Oman Air guests on board our latest Boeing 737 aircraft.

“We thoroughly encourage our friends from Europe and the rest of our network, flying to the Maldives to stop over and explore Oman en route.

“Our new Maldives service offers holidaymakers the perfect opportunity to explore Muscat, the metropolitan capital of Oman before escaping to the beautiful shores of the Maldives.”

The relaunch of the Maldives service comes at an exciting time, as Oman Air recently started their flights to Istanbul in June with operations scheduled to Casablanca in July and Moscow in October.

The Maldives is a beautiful chain of 26 ring atolls, made up of more than 1,000 coral islands, located only three and a half hours away from Oman.

Well known for its beaches, blue lagoons and extensive reefs, the Maldives is an incredibly popular tourist destination with an increasing number of international visitors arriving year on year.

The government strategy is to dramatically increase the number of hotel rooms in the Maldives. Work is currently underway on a collection of new resorts and hotels that will open in the Maldives. Following a push to improve hotel capacity, the Indian Ocean archipelago will play host to more than 10 new hotels & some of the international brand like;

The Lux Resorts brand is planning to expand its presence in the Maldives with a new property LUX* North Male Atoll, Maldives at Olhahali Island. Resort will start welcoming guests in April 2018. A short transfer from Male by luxury speedboat, the intimate LUX* North Male Atoll resort disrupts the Maldivian mould by replacing traditional thatched villas with over-sized, penthouse residences..

The Movenpick Resort and Spa Kuredhivaru opening in early 2018, will be the global hotel group’s first foray into the islands. Situated on the remote Kuredhivaru island in Noonu Atoll, it will provide 32 beach villas and 70 over water suites and a variety of onsite recreational facilities. The first Marine National Park in the Maldives is a 15-minute speedboat ride away, providing guests with excellent diving opportunities.

The Carpe Diem Beach Resort and Spa will be operational from next spring, bringing a unique concept , combining live-aboard cruises around the islands with resort stays. Based on one of a trio of uninhabited islands on the edge of Baa Atoll, the resort’s vast lagoon will be home to 115 pool villas, a spa, a selection of restaurants, and a private water park. Carpe Diem also has three high-end live-aboard boats offering diving and leisure facilities, each catering to 20 guests at a time.

The four-star Oblu Select at Sangeli is the latest Maldives property developed by Atmosphere Hotels & Resorts. Scheduled to open on July 1, 2018, the brand new four-star deluxe resort is located on the desirable Sangeli island in the northwest rim of Male atoll. Amidst one of the best diving and snorkeling locations in the entire Male atoll, OBLU Select at Sangeli will feature 137 stand-alone villas in six categories, both along the beach and over water.

Another resort featuring over water villas and suites on the beach – the Emerald Maldives Resort and Spa will open in Raa Atoll in October 2018, while the ultra-luxurious Waldorf Astoria Maldives is set for an early 2019 opening.

Since 2013, 20 new resorts have already opened in the Maldives. Following the opening of Fushifaru , Reethi Faru and Mercure Maldives Kooddoo Resort towards the end of 2017, the first Italian-designed Baglioni Resort will be added to the mix in 2018.

Etihad Airways weekly flights to Maldives

TMT Maldives – Etihad Airways has announced four additional weekly flights on the popular Abu Dhabi-Malé route, taking frequency to the idyllic Maldives to 11 services a week from June next year.

The expansion from the current daily operation will continue to see a two-class A320 aircraft on the route, offering 16 seats in business class and 120 in economy.

Etihad Airways extra flights, effective from June 15th, will operate year-round and provide more travel options with an early morning arrival enabling guests to maximize their stay in the Maldives.The additional flights will operate every Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Peter Baumgartner, Etihad Airways chief executive, said: “We are increasing frequency to 11 flights a week in order to cater to growing demand on the route, and to provide our guests with more choice of flights so that they can make the most of their stay in the Maldives.”

Hong Kong Airlines to Operate weekly flights to Maldives

TMT Maldives – Hong Kong Airlines has announced it will operate a three-time weekly service to the Maldives from 16th January 2018.

Hong Kong Airlines will operate its Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which features a two-class configuration, including 32 full-flat seats in Business Class and 260 seats in Economy Class. The flight time between Hong Kong and Malé is approximately six hours.

Wayne Wang, assistant director of commercial at Hong Kong Airlines, said: “The Maldives represents the perfect getaway for a growing number of travelers, having enjoyed a 5.9 per cent year-on-year growth during the first eight months of 2017, according to official statistics by the Maldives Tourism Ministry.

Flights will depart from Hong Kong to Malé International Airport every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Each traveler will receive a 30-day visa upon arrival.
